Create a Family Tree Calendar

Updated on November 27, 2014

How to Create a Personalized Family Tree Calendar

Do you enjoy looking through your photo albums at family pictures? Do you treasure some of the old family photos? Would you like to be able to see them on a daily basis?

If you answer yes to the above questions, you can create a custom family tree calendar and enjoy your photos every day. Each time you look at your calendar you will be looking at some of your favorite photos. You can add photos and names to the cover and create your own photo family tree chart. Each month could highlight pictures of your ancestors. You could start in January with a photo of your parents. You could include their names, their birth dates, their places of birth and any other information you desire. In February and March you could put photos of your grandparents. In April, May, June and July you could do grandparents. In the remaining months you could do great grandparents and great great grandparents depending on the photos you have. You can do a single photo of a couple like your parents or your grandparents. You could do individual photos of each ancestor. If you have several photos of certain ancestors, you could create a collage and place as many of the photos as you would like on a page. You could put a family group photo on a page.

You can re-size your photos to fit the page. Some photos could fill the whole page. Others will have to be left very small. At Zazzle you will see a triangle warning you that the photo is too big to print well. You will need to make the photo smaller in order to make your calendar.

Below in this lens you will find a family tree calendar available at Zazzle. If you click on the link, you will be able to customize the calendar and create your own personal family tree calendar. On the cover you can change the text to be the names of the people in the photos. You could add other information if desired; but you will need to make the font smaller, and you may need to make the text box larger.

When you add your own photo, delete the current photo and upload and add your photo. You can use the arrows to adjust the photo to where you want it. You can change the text to be the names of the people in your photos. You can add birth dates, birth places, or any other information that you would like. You could even add a story about the photo if you would like. You could upload a background like a solid color rectangle created in Paint and saved as a png file. You could lighten a photo so it's like a watermark and use it as a background. When you a dd a new image if it covers a previous image that you want to keep or it covers the text, click on the arrange button and choose send to back.

You may also change the design of the calendar dates. You can add text or photos to special dates like someone's photo on their birthday or a couple's photo on their anniversary. The calendar is available in three sizes, so you can pick the size you need or the size that will fit your photos best.

Fun Family Tree Video

Most people know what a family tree is. It starts with you and then it branches out with your parents and then with your grandparents and great grandparents and so on. This video takes a different look at family trees. Hope you find it as delightful as I did.

Give a Family Tree Calendar as a Gift

Calendars make wonderful Christmas presents since they are received shortly before the new year begins. A calendar that displays family photos all year long can be an especially nice gift. Photos of your ancestors can help your family become familiar with them. Photos of living family members will stir memories of good times together.

Your photo imaging program may have a way for you to create a calendar. I have Microsoft Picture It! Photo Premium 9 which includes calendar projects. With this program photos can be arranged on a page and printed out along with dates. Printing your own calendar may be cheaper than submitting it professionally, but you still have to have good paper and you have to have a way to fasten the pages together.

You could print out a calendar form with blank pages where you can attach your photos with glue, tape or photo corners or you can buy blank calendars. You could make this calendar like a scrapbook. Saving the pages at the end of the year and putting them into sheet protectors in an album will make your calendar an ongoing gift.

A personalized family tree calendar makes a unique gift for someone you love and it will mean more because you put the effort into creating it.

Whatever way you create your calendar it will make a great gift.

Blank Calendars Waiting for Your Creation

Add your own photos and information to blank calendars. If you enjoy scrapbooking, making a blank calendar into a scrapbook may be your choice. Each page you make will be on display for a month. At the end of the year you can take apart the calendar and put each page in a sheet protector in an album where you can keep the pages to continue to enjoy.

Descendents Family Calendar

When I think of a family tree, I usually think of ancestors; but a family tree can be made with descendents. A calendar made as a gift for grandparents could have the grandparents as the trunk with their children on the lower branches and their grandchildren on the upper branches and great grandchildren on the tips of the branches.

A combined calendar could be made with January through June being pictures of ancestors and July through December being pictures of descendents.

Other variations of family calendars could be photos of family members with their pets. Stories of the pets could be included with the photos. You could also do a calendar with photos of family members and their homes. Another calendar idea could be family members with their cars. Family vacations could also make another theme for a calendar.

A family calendar could also be about just one person. For someone who is a gardener each month could feature photos of flowers that person has grown. For someone involved in sports a calendar could feature snapshots of the person during a game.

Family Tree Calendar Ideas

Any customizable photo calendar can be made into a Family Tree Calendar. You could add all of the grandchildren to a calendar for grandparents. If there are less than twelve grandchildren, you could place a photo of an individual child on each page and then add photos of two or more of the grandchildren on the remaining pages. If there is only one grandchild, you could place photos of the grandchild from each month of the year. This could be especially nice for long distance grandparents who miss out on seeing the how much a young child has grown from month to month.

For a newly married couple pictures of their wedding on each page would be a great reminder for them throughout the year of the love and joy they felt on their wedding day.

Making a calendar with a photo of a person's grandparents and great grandparents on each page would fill a calendar. A couple's parents and grandparents would fill a calendar. Placing photos of couples on each page would enable one to fill a calendar with parents, grandparents and great grandparents.

Look at the photos you have and decide who would enjoy having those photos displayed each month. Then create a calendar with those photos. Your calendar will be a unique one-of-a-kind gift or you can make duplicate calendars to give to more than one family member. A Family Tree Calendar can be a meaningful and useful gift.

Handmade Red Tag Calendar

I had a couple of boxes of red tags, so I made calendars from them for gifts this year.I chose photos that I had taken and glued them on the tags. Family photos would be perfect for a calendar like this, but I used sunsets and flowers and other photos that I liked.I selected some quotes to print out and glue onto the tags.I found a free calendar template online that printed out wallet size which fit perfectly on the tags.I used deckle-edge scissors to cut out the photos and quotes and monthly calendars so I didn't have to worry so much about cutting a straight line.I tied all the pages together with a ribbon. Fanning the pages out makes it so the calendar can stand on a table or shelf.
